John W. Black is a partner in LashGoldberg’s Miami office. John is a former federal prosecutor and a seasoned commercial litigator whose practice focuses on the financial and healthcare sectors, government investigations, and False Claims Act cases.
Prior to joining LashGoldberg, John served for more than five years as a Trial Attorney in the Fraud Section of the Washington, D.C. office of the U.S. Department of Justice. During his tenure as a federal prosecutor, John led numerous investigations under the False Claims Act, FIRREA, the Stark Law, and the Anti-Kickback Statute. His trial victories and work at DOJ led to recoveries totaling over $4 billion, and he was responsible for several of the largest DOJ settlements during the past decade.
Prior to his government service, John practiced with two large international law firms in Washington, D.C., representing Fortune 100 clients in high stakes class actions, arbitrations, and government investigations. He has represented corporate clients before the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and various state regulatory agencies.
